India has always loved gold.
Just not like this.

Hi, I'm Kamya — I started UNPLATED so gold could belong to people like me too.

Growing up, whenever I visited dad's office, I was surrounded with gold jewellery. All of it was beautiful, but always felt unattainable. That's the part nobody really talks about — gold can make you feel like a guest at your own inheritance. It read as older, married, occasion-only. Something you'd inherit one day, not choose today. So for a long time, I just didn't wear much of it — despite being a jeweller's daughter!

Why UNPLATED exists

Not cheaper gold — gold this generation can actually own. Pieces you'd choose for yourself, in styles you'd actually wear, at a spec that doesn't ask you to treat it like a luxury purchase you need to justify.

Buying solid gold jewellery shouldn't require a wedding invitation to justify it.

Practically, that meant 9K solid gold, made to order, priced like it belongs in your actual life. Not a compromise — 9K is harder than 18K, holds detail better, and takes daily wear the way 18K isn't built to. Unlike silver, it won't tarnish overnight either.

A bit about how I got here: B.Com in Banking & Insurance, 2011–14. A couple of years in finance, while I quietly enrolled in law school on the side. Graduated in 2018, then spent six years arguing other people's cases — until late 2024. A stretch of yoga teaching followed. And then, in 2026, I finally did the thing generations of my family had already been doing.

Generations of jewellers in the family. Never quite felt like it was mine to wear.

Beautiful pieces. Just never once felt like something I'd have chosen for myself.

Loved the field, genuinely. The burnout was real too.

Started as a way to cope. Fell hard enough to consider teaching full-time — wasn't sure it could pay the bills.

the break year

Took a year to figure it out. Mostly just wanted to make money on my own terms.

First long trek, alone with a group of strangers. Mostly went to see the Milky Way. Saw it.

I called it UNPLATED because that's what it is. No coating hiding a cheap base metal, no “demi-fine” jewellery, no base metal to ever wear through to. The business works the same way — no unnecessary layers between the maker and the person wearing it.

That's it, really. Good gold. No nonsense.
